E107 - A Yaesu FT107M Extender Card
OBJECTIVE
The objective is the design for a Yaesu FT107M extender, that offers some smarts above what isgenerically available. The genuine FT107M extender card from Yaesu is long obsolete. The extender card is to facilitate fault finding, tuning and adjustment of the card array located inside the Yaesu FT107M
transceiver.
IMPLEMENTATION
Detailed examination of the FT107M Schematic diagram showed that 40way, 0.1inch spaced edge connectors were used, noting the 40 way connectors comprised a 40 by 2 configuration, but the transceiver only used single sided PCB’s.
A different sized edge connector was used on the “Memory Card”, and given this card cannot cause the overall transceiver to fail, or be misaligned, a decision to manufacture a single 40 way extender card was made.
In order to provide some smarts associated with the extender card application, based on the first step in fault finding is verifying that DC power. To this end, LED indicators with current limit resistors were fitted to key pinouts of the extender card. Now, Yaesu designers did not consistently apply DC power across the transceiver connectors when in receive or transmit. This means LED illumination patterns will exist depending in which slot the extender card is placed.
BOM
1 x 40 by 2 female 0.1” edge connector slot, P/N TAT S-80-3.175-6.5 (or equivalent)
1 x PCB as per Gerber file, noting gold plated option on black. (cheaper options possible)
9 x 3mm or 5mm LEDs, colour of your choosing.
9 x 1.8K ohm, 0.25w resistors
OPERATION
The Yaesu FT107M uses pins 1 and pin 40 as DC ground, enabling DMM (-ve) or CRO (shield) probe connections.
Note, LED status is shown, RF slots were not verified.
